BAD ACTRESS’ DEBORAH S. CRAIG IN TONIGHT’S EPISODE OF HART OF DIXIE, “HEART TO HART”, ON THE CW NETWORK (9 – 10 PM ET)

April 9th, 2012

The CW’s “Hart of Dixie returns tonight after a six-week hiatus, and the latest episode “Heart to Hart” offers a whole new reason for fans to be excited.  “Heart to Hart” draws particular focus to Korean-American actress Deborah S. Craig, whose performance as “Shelley Ng” provides the comedic relief to the tension surrounding “Zoe” (Rachel Bilson) and her father (Gary Cole).  Though Craig has been seen before playing the quirky waitress that works in the Rammer Jammer, this episode really showcases Ms. Craig’s landmark portrayal of TV’s first Asian-American from the South. Don’t miss it!!

THE GOOD REVIEWS FOR BAD ACTRESS KEEP COMING!

March 2nd, 2012

Bad Actress Description: ***
Strand, 85 min., not rated, DVD: $24.99, Feb. 21
In Robert Lee King’s black comedy, a soap star goes to desperate lengths to hang on to her extravagant Hollywood lifestyle. Alyssa Rampart-Pillage (Beth Broderick), formerly appearing on HMO Nurse, now makes commercials with her husband, Bernie (Chris Mulkey), an appliance store magnate. The couple have three resentful children, one of whom, Topanga (Keri Lynn Pratt), is trying to be an activist, even if that means protesting her own father’s business. However, in the first chapter, “Motive,” Topanga dies from a fall before she can make amends (the other chapters are titled “Means” and “Opportunity”), which leaves the bulimic Rebecca (Whitney Able) and sex-obsessed Russell (Ryan Hansen). After Topanga’s death, Bernie undergoes a spiritual awakening and, to Alyssa’s chagrin, turns to a New Age religion, scales back his business, and cuts his family out of his will. Alyssa promptly turns to Bernie’s cousin, Morris (Vincent Ventresca), with whom she’s been having an affair, to make her hubby pay. Before long, Bernie winds up dead, and the LAPD is sniffing around, spurring the kids to try to hunt down evidence to implicate Alyssa. Along the way, another person turns up dead, while Alyssa ensnares a fortune teller (Nathan Lee Graham) and an actor (Corbin Bernsen as himself) in her mess. King actually keeps this fairly preposterous narrative nicely humming along, and while it’s rarely laugh-out-loud funny, Bad Actress is always engaging. Recommended. (K. NEW REVIEWS OF BAD ACTRESS!

February 22nd, 2012

Reviews are coming in for BAD ACTRESS and they are very encouraging! Here’s what some of them are saying:

“BAD ACTRESS is an absolutely addictive blend of SERIAL MOM and PSYCHO BEACH PARTY. This irreverent comedy has all the makings of a cult classic.” – Edge New York

“One reason the film is so damn good is the brilliance of the writing and acting. Beth Broderick is amazing as the lead, and the entire supporting cast all give fantastic performances playing their over the top characters.” – Video Views

“Beth Broderick (FOOLS RUSH IN) plays the main lead, looking incredible, and bringing an engaging performance of a character that goes from being completely cold to suddenly explode in outbursts of emotion … if you are into very twisted types of comedy, this film would work for you.” – Screen Invasion

BAD ACTRESS WINS “BEST ACTRESS IN A COMEDY”

August 26th, 2011

Bad Actress, the new feature from director Robert Lee King, screened at the New York City International Film Festival this week at the Tribeca Cinemas.  Beth Broderick, who stars as Alyssa Rampart-Pillage, was awarded “Best Actress in a Comedy” at the festival gala.  When accepting the award, Ms. Broderick said that she is “the Divine to Bob’s John Waters.”

Bad Actress highlights the power of celebrity justice and Ms. Broderick’s character pays homage to those “not-guilty”/guilty tabloid icons: OJ Simpson, Robert Blake, Phil Spector and Lindsay Lohan.
